Parents

Parents, whether your child just turned 14 and received their moped license, or you're sending them off to college, they’ll need a source of transportation. What better way to get to where they need to be than a moped! Click the drop down menu to learn more about your child's needs, and how a moped may help them out!

Middle/High School

Once your child turns 14, they are eligible to earn their moped certificate, and luckily University Scooters has just the course to help them out! Our course offers an in-depth learning opportunity to strengthen your child’s understanding of all the rules of the road, and how to safely operate a moped. We’ll teach them about road signs, riders safety, how to handle complex situations, moped care, and so much more! Our course helps prepare the next generation of riders how to safely and confidently operate a motor vehicle, while also teaching them independence and responsibility.

After completion of the course, your child will get mailed a copy of their Certificate of Completion. This certificate is then taken to your local DMV’s office, and shown as proof of completing the moped course. Once the certificate has been shown, your child may now claim their moped license, and is able to ride!

Now that your child has their certificate, and has their own moped, it’s time to learn how to ride! Rest assured that learning to ride a moped is safe and easy, as long as they hold onto the skills they learned in their course. For a quick refresher on all the moped-riding basics, check out this video made by our very own UScoots employees! From there, it’s (mostly) just like riding a bike! But of course, just like everything, practice makes perfect. If they’re still feeling unsure find a safe open space to learn and get more comfortable with the bike.

College

Is it Iowa City or Iowa Scootin' City?! We might be a little biased, but between off campus housing, having classes all over town, and minimal car parking, your student will be walking or waiting (sometimes both). For about $60 a semester, you're able to park at any of the moped/motorcycle parking spots across campus. Dorm building, the library, and even Kinnick Stadium all have parking spots nearby. Mopeds provide fun, affordable freedom for Hawkeyes!

Is it safe to keep my moped parked outside? Thankfully, there are plenty of security measures your child can take to reduce the likelihood of theft or vandalism. Every single moped we sell has a cool feature that allows the rider to lock the handlebars and front wheel to one side, and can only be done/undone with the key. For additional safety and security accessories for your child’s moped, check out what we have to offer at our store!

Is it difficult to ride a scooter?

Even if you have never driven a two wheeled vehicle before, the majority of customers pick up the basics pretty fast. Mopeds are much smaller, slower, and lighter than "normal" motorcycles. For a quick starting point on all the moped-riding basics, check out this video made by our very own UScoots employees! From there, it’s (mostly) just like riding a bike! But of course, just like everything, practice makes perfect. If they’re still feeling unsure, we can help find a safe open space to learn and get more comfortable with the bike.
